Zing.gg,
one API from
application to settlement.

A payments platform with KYC and AML built directly into a single API. I service mapped the merchant journey, wireframed the agent back office and shipped a high fidelity UI for the engineers to build against. The job was to make a regulated process feel like product, not like paperwork.

Zing.gg merchant onboarding
01

Background

Zing.gg was a fintech payments platform with KYC and AML onboarding built into a single API. One pipe, one developer experience, handling regulated transactions across sales channels. The product team had the engine. They needed the surface design to match.

Two distinct user groups. Merchants signing up to take payments. Agents reviewing those merchants for risk and compliance. Two different jobs, one shared backbone. The UX had to honour both without leaking the other into either.

02

Process

Service mapping

Mapped the merchant journey across capture, verify, review and settle. Walked the same map across data sources, internal queues, third party services and engineer hand offs.

User research

Sat with two underwriters for half a day each. Watched them work the existing tool. Too many tabs, no risk context next to the document, no way to ask the merchant a clarifying question.

Wireframes & prototypes

Detailed wireframes of the agent back office. Sketched in low fidelity first, validated with the compliance team, then taken to high fidelity for engineering.

Production UI

High fidelity, responsive, every state designed. Desktop primary, mobile responsive for merchant onboarding. Engineers had the spec the day of the build.

The underwriter shouldn't have to open eight tabs to make one decision. Research finding · turned into a product principle

Outcome

Shipped to engineering as a complete spec. Onboarding and back office both went live within the same release window. The "no more eight tabs" principle became a design rule. Every screen since has been measured against it.
